How it works

The Website Traffic Checker looks up each target in an index of Google rankings. It returns the estimated monthly traffic and the number of ranking keywords for the country you pick.

Single mode checks one domain or URL and returns results in a few seconds. Bulk mode queues up to 100 targets and runs them in the background. You can keep working while the job completes.

How the estimate is made. For each target we look up every keyword it ranks for in Google in the chosen country. Each ranking position gets a click-through rate, which we multiply by the keyword's monthly search volume. The sum of those products is the Organic Traffic figure. Every competitive-intelligence tool uses this method. Vendors differ on index size, ranking freshness, and the click-through curve they use.

Country scoping. Every estimate covers one country. A domain that does well in the United States can look very different in India or the United Kingdom. Rankings differ, and so do the search volumes behind them. Pick the country whose audience you care about.

Auto-detection. With the type set to Auto, anything starting with http:// or https:// is treated as a URL. Everything else is treated as a Domain. A URL covers a single page. A domain rolls up every page on the host. You can override the auto-pick from the type dropdown.

Choosing the www variant. Before we look up a domain, we check whether example.com or www.example.com is the one the link graph points at. We then use the winner for the metrics call. Our data source treats the two as different sites, so this step improves the results.

Plan caps. Each submission takes up to 100 targets on the Free plan. Each input uses one unit from a daily traffic-lookups budget. That budget is shared across our website-analytics tools: Website Traffic Checker, SEO Analyzer, SEO Optimizer, Subdomain Finder, and Competitors Finder.

Known limitations.

  • Organic search only. Direct visits, paid ads, referral traffic, email, and social channels are not in the estimate.
  • Google only. Bing, DuckDuckGo, Yandex, and Baidu rankings do not count. For most English-language sites Google brings nearly all organic traffic. In some regions that is a real blind spot.
  • One country at a time. To compare a domain across countries, run this tool once per country. For per-country keyword volume, use the Keyword Volume Checker instead.
  • No data is not zero. A target our data source has no record of shows as No data, not as zero. The two mean different things.

What the columns mean

Target
The domain or URL you submitted. In bulk mode, click this cell to open the target's keyword set in another tool.
Type
Either Domain (the whole host) or URL (a single page). The two add up traffic differently, as described above.
Organic Traffic
Estimated monthly visits from Google search in the country you picked. It comes from click-through rates applied to every keyword the target ranks for. Treat it as a rough signal, not an exact count.
Total Keywords
The number of distinct keywords the target ranks for in Google's top results for the chosen country. A higher number usually means broader topical coverage. It does not mean more traffic on its own. A domain with 100 strong rankings can out-earn one with 10,000 weak ones, so read this column alongside Organic Traffic.

Frequently asked questions

How do I know my website traffic?

Enter your domain (such as example.com) or a single URL, pick a country, and click Check Traffic. You get an estimate of monthly visits from Google search, plus the number of keywords the target ranks for in that country. If you own the site, compare our numbers with the Performance report in Google Search Console. That report shows real impressions and clicks for sites you have verified.

How can I measure traffic to a website for free?

This tool is free and needs no signup. For your own site, Google Search Console and Google Analytics are the best sources. Both are free and come straight from Google. For a site you do not own, no tool can see its visitor logs. You need a third-party estimate like this one, which works from the keywords the site ranks for and their search volumes.

Can you really see how much traffic another website gets?

Not exactly. No third-party tool can see the visitor logs of a site it does not own. Every competitive tool, including this one, builds an index of Google rankings instead. For each keyword the site ranks for, it multiplies the click-through rate for that position by the monthly search volume. The sum is the traffic estimate. For big sites with many rankings, the estimate is usually in the right range. For small or new sites it can be off in either direction.

What is a good amount of website traffic?

It depends on the niche, the business model, and the page. A local plumber with 500 visits a month from their service area may earn more than a content site with 50,000 generic visits. The better question is whether your traffic is growing month over month and converting. Use this tool to benchmark against the sites you compete with, not against a fixed number.

Can a traffic checker detect fake traffic?

No, and it does not need to. This tool works from Google rankings, so it only counts visits that real Google users would generate by clicking a result. Direct visits, bot traffic, paid ads, and referrals never show up here. That is a plus for SEO benchmarking. If a competitor's real visitor count looks much higher than our number, they may be buying ads or getting a lot of direct and referral traffic.

What is the difference between checking a domain and a URL?

Domain adds up traffic and ranking keywords across every page on the host. So example.com rolls up every example.com/something page in our index. URL limits the same numbers to one page, such as example.com/blog/post-1. Use Domain to size up a competitor. Use URL to see how one page is doing.

Why does the traffic estimate differ from Google Analytics?

Google Analytics counts every visit from every channel: organic, paid, referral, direct, email, and social. This tool estimates organic Google traffic only, and only for the country you pick. If your Analytics number is much higher, the gap is other channels or other search engines. If our number is higher, the usual reason is that not everyone who could have clicked did. Click-through-rate models give an upper bound, not a guarantee.

Do I make money from website traffic?

Traffic on its own pays nothing. It has to be monetized through ads, affiliate links, products, leads, or a software funnel. A useful measure is RPM, the revenue per thousand visits. Once you know your RPM, you can turn any traffic number from this tool into a rough revenue figure for a competitor. Then ask whether matching their traffic at your RPM is worth the SEO investment.
