Engagement Rate Calculator

Turn likes, comments, and shares into an engagement rate by followers or by reach.

Enter a post's likes, comments, and shares plus your follower count to get its engagement rate, by followers, or by reach in Advanced options.

How it works

Engagement rate is the share of your audience that interacted with a post. The classic formula divides interactions by followers. The modern variant divides by reach, the number of people who saw the post. Platforms increasingly prefer the reach version because feeds no longer show a post to every follower.

Formula: ER = (Likes + Comments + Shares/Saves) / Followers x 100 · ER by reach = Interactions / Reach x 100.

Advanced options add the by-reach engagement rate, the fairer measure of how the people who saw the post responded.

Everything runs in your browser. Your numbers are never sent to a server, and there is no signup or limit. Your last entries are remembered locally so the calculator is ready next time.

Frequently asked questions

What is a good engagement rate?

It depends on the platform and the size of the account. By followers, 1 to 3 percent is solid on Instagram. Very large accounts often sit under 1 percent, and micro-accounts often pass 5 percent. TikTok usually runs higher, at 3 to 9 percent. X and Facebook run lower, at 0.5 to 1.5 percent. LinkedIn personal posts land around 2 to 5 percent. Judge against accounts your size on the same platform, not against one universal number.

Should I calculate engagement by followers or by reach?

By followers is the classic metric. It compares across accounts and is what most brands quote. By reach answers a different question: did the people who saw the post care? It is fairer when the algorithm limits how many followers see a post. Report the followers-based rate publicly. Use the reach-based rate, under Advanced options, to judge content quality.

Which interactions count?

Likes and comments always count. Shares and saves count where the platform shows them, and saves are a strong signal on Instagram. Some marketers include clicks. If you do, be consistent, so you compare like with like over time.

How do I calculate the engagement rate for an Instagram post?

Add up the post's likes, comments, shares, and saves. Divide by your follower count and multiply by 100. A post with 300 likes, 20 comments, and 30 saves on a 10,000-follower account has an engagement rate of 3.5 percent. Enter the same numbers above and the calculator does the arithmetic and shows the reach-based rate too.

Why did my engagement rate drop as I grew?

Almost every account's rate falls as followers rise. A larger audience is less closely matched to your content, and feeds show each post to a smaller share of it. That is why comparing your rate with much bigger or smaller accounts misleads.

Should I measure one post or the whole account?

Both, for different reasons. A single post tells you whether that piece of content landed. An average over your last 10 to 20 posts tells you the health of the account and smooths out one viral hit or one flop. Run the calculator per post, then average the results for the account view.

Does engagement rate matter for sponsorships?

Yes. Brands use it to compare creators of different sizes, because a 20,000-follower account at 6 percent often delivers more real attention than a 200,000-follower account at 0.8 percent. Quote your followers-based rate over your recent posts, and keep the reach-based figure ready for brands that ask how your content performs with the people who see it.

Is this engagement rate calculator free?

Yes. It is free with no signup and runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is uploaded.
