ChatGPT shopping: from Instant Checkout to the Shopping tab

Instant Checkout let US users buy from Etsy sellers inside ChatGPT from 29th Sep 2025. OpenAI deprioritized it in March 2026 in favour of product discovery, and a Shopping tab appeared in August.

OpenAI's first commerce product put the purchase inside the chat. Instant Checkout launched on 29th Sep 2025 with US Etsy sellers.

Six months later OpenAI changed course. It said the first version "did not offer the level of flexibility that we aspire to provide", and merchants now use their own checkout.
